Data on interceptions of vessels and aircraft completed near the Baltic States’ borders from 13 to 19 July 2015

In the period from July 13 to 19 NATO air policing fighter jets guarding the Baltic airspace were scrambled once to intercept aircraft flying in international airspace above the Baltic Sea. On July 16 NATO fighters identified and escorted an IL-20 electronic reconnaissance plane of the Russian Federation flying in international airspace from Mainland Russian towards Kaliningrad. The aircraft was flying in accordance with a pre-filed flight plan, with its onboard transponder switched off, and maintained radio communication with air traffic control centres. No violations of Lithuania's airspace were identified.
