Schulz stressed the importance of dialogue regarding Britain's efforts to reform the EU: "We are waiting for the concrete proposals and let's start on the basis of mutual trust."
Meanwhile Cameron highlighted the importance of Parliament: "I've been meeting with presidents and prime ministers across Europe and obviously engaging with Martin and the European Parliament is going to be vital to the success of this programme."
During his two-day visit, Schulz was also due to meet Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, Leader of the House of Commons Chris Grayling and Labour Party leader Harriet Harman. In addition he will also participate in various other events including a public debate at the National Institute for Economic and Social Research on freedom of movement, on Thursday evening.
