During the meeting, the Ministers highlighted friendly relations between the two countries and their interest in developing them. It was noted that Kosovo's aspirations of closer European integration and future EU membership could also boost bilateral ties.
Linkevičius suggested that Kosovo should benefit from Lithuania's valuable experience with implementing reforms geared to EU integration. To this end the countries could cooperate more closely in implementing EU Twinning projects.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister expressed hope that the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Union and Kosovo would be signed this summer as planned, but also that Kosovo would soon meet all the required conditions so that its citizens could travel without a visa to the EU like all Western Balkan visa-free citizens.
Linkevičius stressed that good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation was one of the required conditions for the Western Balkans countries seeking closer European integration. The development of mutual relations is necessary for the reconciliation and stability of the region that has recently survived military conflicts. The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy called on Kosovo to continue to engage in a constructive dialogue with Serbia on the normalization of relations, to stop procrastinating and move forward by implementing its commitments to the international community and to establish a special court for war crimes.
