"I have said my opinion while I was still working in the Seimas opposition. I am in favour of holding a relevant referendum if laws prohibit legalising dual citizenship in Lithuania. It would be better if this referendum took place together with parliamentary elections in order to reduce costs," the prime minister said on Thursday.
As reported, the Seimas political group of the Liberal Movement had called for a parliamentary resolution which would allow holding a dual citizenship referendum in Lithuania along with parliamentary election in 2016.
"Following the restoration of independence, more than 700,000 people have emigrated from Lithuania. They were not only famous athletes but also teachers, managers, woodworkers, students. They were hard-working people and families who chose to live abroad. We must encourage these people and their children to remain Lithuania's patriots instead of taking away their passport with our country's stamp on it," said Chairman of the Liberal Movement MP Eligijus Masiulis.
