The proposal will be considered at the Seimas next week.
"Following the restoration of independence, more than 700,000 people have emigrated from Lithuania. They were not only famous athletes but also teachers, managers, woodworkers, students. They were hard-working people and families who chose to live abroad. We must encourage these people and their children to remain Lithuania's patriots instead of taking away their passport with our country's stamp on it," said Chairman of the Liberal Movement MP Eligijus Masiulis.
Statistics Lithuania had announced that on 1 January 2015 there were 2.921 million residents in Lithuania, while back in 1990 the country had 3.7 million people. Every year there more deaths than births in Lithuania, as a result, the country's natural population trend remains negative: in 2014, the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 8,900.
