Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas stressed that Kazakhstan was the most important economic partner of Lithuania in Central Asia. The volume of bilateral trade has consistently grown over the past sixth years. The trade turnover increased by 60 % and amounted to 956.2 million euros in 2014 compared with 2013.
The meeting discussed the official visit to Kazakhstan of Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and Lithuania's business mission scheduled in May.
The Vice-Minister welcomed the decision of the "Kazakhstan Railways" to build a loading terminal in the seaport of Klaipėda.
He also stressed the importance of good conditions of cargo transit through the territory of Russia for bilateral economic cooperation.
The heads of the delegations affirmed that both sides were willing to develop the container train Saulė project, connecting Western Europe with China via Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
Krivas invited Kazakhstan's officials to attend the International Transportation and Logistics Conference "New Silk Road, a reliable link between Europe and Asia" in Klaipėda on June 5-6, 2015.
