The agreement aims at setting up a joint Lithuanian–Polish–Ukrainian military brigade, defining its tasks, principles of activity, structure, and other matters related to its activities.
"It is planned that the brigade will be used for training purposes, sharing of experience among the three states and joint exercises, and, based on a joint agreement, it will participate in missions under the mandate of the United Nations Security Council. It was agreed that the headquarters would be based in the city of Lublin. Lithuania plans to send six of its officers there while the battalions attached to this brigade would be deployed in each of the countries," Juozas Olekas, Minister of National Defence, said this earlier. He noted that the proposal received a highly positive evaluation from NATO allies.
The establishment of this military unit will be one of the biggest military cooperation projects among Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine, and it will enhance the trilateral relations. The Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland, the Government of the Republic of Lithuania and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the Establishment of a Joint Military Unit was signed in Warsaw on 19 September 2014.
