We owe the growing number of votes for the Polish minority party candidates, Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania, to the strategy of Valdemar Tomaševski, the leader of EAPL. This success is based on four actions. Firstly, Mr Tomaševski united and integrated Lithuanian Poles under one banner. He explained that strength is the only unity, and people will manage to fight for their rights with their own strength. Secondly, he invited all minorities in Lithuania to political cooperation. He explained that only together they can effectively fight for the rights of minorities, which are common to them. Thirdly, he transformed the minority party, the one of limited electorate, into a Lithuanian general Christian-democratic party with national program.
Until now, there were no such party on the political scene with such a profile, and this is a gesture to the Lithuanians. Actually Lithuanians stand for from the lists of EAPL and vote for the party.
Fourthly, he decided to go out together with the party, in accordance with the adopted strategy, beyond the borders of the Vilnius Region - outside ethnic Polish lands. In the last elections Valdemar Tomaševski's coalition issued their candidates to 13 local self-governments out of 60. A list does not guarantee electoral success, but brings votes for the party. We see that a coherent and consistent thinking of Mr Tomaševski perfectly suits to the realities of the Lithuanian political scene.
