President Dalia Grybauskaite on Friday morning signed a relevant decree, taking into account the Constitution and submission from the Government.
On Wednesday, 4 March, the Government approved the candidacy of Marius Janukonis as the new ambassador of Lithuania to Ukraine.
Janukonis' candidacy was discussed in a closed session of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs on 23 January.
The Ukrainian Government submitted its agreement to receive the new ambassador on 17 February. At present Janukonis is Director of the Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Janukonis will assume his new duties on 31 March. He will succeed former ambassador to Ukraine Petras Vaitiekunas (62) who has retired from the diplomatic service.
