The minister emphasised that the US has been a key strategic partner for Lithuania and welcomed active and productive law enforcement cooperation.
"Indeed, we highly value that cooperation with the US is close and encompasses many important areas - fight against international organised crime and terrorism, fight against crimes in the electronic space, narcotics, human trafficking, guarantee of nuclear safety and other relevant areas. I believe it is important to retain and intensify these relations, concentrating more on practical cooperation and problem-solving, organising special training," said Minister Skvernelis.
The US ambassador expressed strong resolve in intensifying cooperation in the area of law enforcement and sharing experience. Ambassador McCarthy noted that training should not be sporadic but more coordinated and dedicated to achieving concrete goals as this would allow to strive for even better results.
The minister and the ambassador discussed today's geopolitical threats and enhancement of all law enforcement institutions. Security of the European Union's external borders, illegal migration and smuggling were also addressed. In addition, Skvernelis noted the importance of cooperation as regards cyber security.
