He also does not rule out the possibility that if the situation deteriorates some more additional sanctions could be imposed.
During the joint Vilnius forum of intellectuals and Snow Meeting, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, former head of Yukos, said that the EU sanctions act not only against Vladimir Putin's regime but also help to mobilise society to support the regime. Khodorkovsky also suggested making public the financial cover held in the West by the regime's representatives. Linkevicius, however, said that it is not a universal opinion.
"When it comes to sanctions, I believe that even after these meetings we must stay very consistent, patient and let the sanctions do their job. I think there is no need to think about new additional sanctions at the moment, although I would not rule out the possibility of this happening if the situation gets even worse. So far our measures are working, the sanctions bring not only economic but also political effects," Linkevicius said during a press conference.
Lithuanian foreign minister supported Khodorkovsky's idea of revealing the regime's financial cover in the West, yet, knowing the situation of the Russian mass media, it would be a difficult task.
