"I welcome the start of your service in Lithuania. For many years our states have been united in partnership in a number of bilateral and international formats. I am pleased that we will work together in the Eurogroup of the European Union as of the start of this year as well", said Prime Minister Butkevičius.
The Head of Government has said that the Netherlands has been one of the most important economic partners of Lithuania, listed among Lithuania's 27 economic diplomacy targets, as approved by the Economic Diplomacy Council.
"The Kingdom of the Netherlands is one of the largest investors in Lithuania. We hope that our country's accession to the euro area will take our cooperation further in the areas of information technology, financial services, life sciences, construction, and logistics," noted the Prime Minister.
In the meeting the Prime Minister emphasized Lithuania's goal to become a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD): "Membership of the OECD remains among Lithuania's top priorities supported by the Government as well as the business community. Lithuania is completely ready to contribute to the achievement of the OECD objectives; therefore, I highly value the support of the Netherlands in this respect".
The Prime Minister also thanked for the Netherlands' decision to contribute to the defence of the Baltic States in the NATO context.
