The coalition will issue its lists of candidates in the cities of Vilnius, Kaunas, Druskininkai, Visaginas, Klaipėda; districts of Šalčininkai, Vilnius, Trakai, Širvintos, Švenčionys, Elektrėnai, Molėtai, Ignalina, Zarasai and Varėna. EAPL together with the Alliance of Russians will also appoint their candidates for direct elections of mayors in the mentioned municipalities.
'We, as a political party, are an attractive partner for other groups: we keep our word, moral principles are important for us,' said the leader of the Electoral Action.
V. Tomaševski noted that these municipalities (among all sixty municipalities of the country) where EAPL is in power, stand out as providing tangible benefits for the residents. In these municipalities, as he said, farmers do not have to pay taxes, for which, for example, the local government of the Vilnius district allocates more than 1 million LTL per year. New hospitals were recently built in Šumskas and Nemenčinė while, as the EAPL leader pointed out, these facilities are not built in the country. Moreover, for four years, since the beginning of the economic crisis, people of the district have been receiving subsidies for heating and cold water.
'When you want to help people, you can find the money,' V. Tomaševski said citing an example of the self-government of the Vilnius district, which remains the least indebted self-government in the country despite allocating 4 million LTL for heating and water every year.
Irina Rozova, Member of the Seimas of Lithuania, Vice Chairwoman of the Russian Alliance party, indicated that each self-government has its own characteristics, and the coalition is ready to work and ensure that the life of inhabitants would be comfortable and equal to European standards.
V. Tomaševski predicts that the coalition candidates will already win in the first round of the direct elections of mayors in Šalčininkai and Vilnius districts, where present mayors Zdislav Palevič and Marija Rekst will stand. In other municipalities, as V. Tomaševski forecasts, candidates of EAPL and Alliance of Russians will go to the second round and will compete for the position of mayors. In Trakai, on behalf of EAPL, the current deputy mayor Marija Puč will apply for the mayor position, in the Švenčionys district – Member of the Seimas Zbignev Jedzinski, in Klaipėda - Irina Rozova.
Asked by L24 journalists to comment on the support of them demands of striking employees of education system, V. Tomaševski said that EAPL, as the only party in Lithuania, supported the requests of educators, the work of whom, as he noted, is difficult, but no proper attention from the authorities of the state has been paid to their problems.
'Despite the fact that we have been noting an economic growth in our country for several years in a row, and the fact that it has reached the pre-crisis level, teachers are still waiting for the return of reduced wages. To add, their requests to retire at the age of 55 are not heard,' said the EAPL leader, mentioning, that the problems of educators must be resolved immediately.
