The President appointed Gediminas Varvuolis as Lithuania’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America, Asta Radikaitė as Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as well as to the Portuguese Republic, and Gitana Skripkaitė as Ambassador to the Republic of Estonia.
During his meeting with Ambassador Varvuolis, the President emphasized that the United States remains Lithuania’s most important security and economic partner. He stressed the priority of strengthening ties with the U.S. administration.
The key tasks for the new ambassador to the United States include ensuring the continued presence of American troops in Lithuania, fostering closer ties with the U.S. defense industry and enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. The President also underscored the importance of maintaining close relations with the Lithuanian American community and preserving Lithuanian heritage in the United States.
In his conversation with Ambassador Radikaitė to the United Kingdom, the President focused on Lithuanian-UK cooperation in security and defense. He underlined the importance of collective defense and Lithuania’s active participation in the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), contributing to the strengthening of the JEF format. According to the President, the ambassador’s key goals are advancing the relationship between the UK and the EU, enhancing economic diplomacy to attract more British investment, and expanding cooperation in the defense industry.
At his meeting with the new ambassador to Estonia, Gitana Skripkaitė, the President noted that, given the very close bilateral ties between Lithuania and Estonia, it is essential to maintain and further develop strategic dialogue and coordination on key issues such as security, energy, transport, information resilience, sanctions enforcement, and support for Ukraine. Additional priorities for the ambassador include increasing Lithuania’s visibility in Estonia ahead of the 2027 EU Council Presidency, showcasing Lithuania’s progress in various fields, strengthening connections with the Lithuanian diaspora, and promoting Lithuanian heritage education and active civic engagement.
Ambassador Gediminas Varvuolis is an experienced diplomat, having previously served as Lithuania’s envoy to NATO, Japan and Belgium.
Ambassador Asta Radikaitė previously served as Lithuania’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark and to Iceland.
Before her appointments as ambassador, Gitana Skripkaitė served as Deputy Director of the Global Lithuania Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as adviser at the Consulate General of Lithuania in New York.
