"Our countries, which are connected not only by geography but also by shared values, have every incentive to cooperate as closely as possible and to act as one on the most important issues of common interest and responsibility. This is particularly important in the context of ensuring regional security and deterrence for all of us, as well as providing opportunities for the region to become even more visible and stronger in the world," said Prime Minister Paluckas.
With Denmark taking over the coordination of the NB8 from Sweden this year, it is important to maintain the ambition and dynamics of the partnership, and Lithuania, which values this format very much, will do its utmost to contribute to it, the Head of Government added.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the role of the Nordic and Baltic NATO members in mobilising the attention of the Allies on security issues, such as the implementation of regional defence plans, the rotational model of air defence, and the increased funding of defence – the 3% of GDP threshold should be a new commitment at the upcoming Hague Summit.
All Nordic and Baltic countries are active supporters of Ukraine, and it is essential to continue supporting it in every way. Pressure on Russia through sanctions must not be reduced in any way; the aim should be to implement decisive new measures and ensure the most effective enforcement of existing ones, as noted in the meeting.
The conversation with the ambassadors also touched upon the topical issues of the region and Lithuania, transatlantic cooperation, the EU agenda and energy, and the Government's position on issues of relevance in the context of cooperation between the countries.
