"The Lithuanian-Rheinmetall munitions plant demonstrates our readiness to invest in our security and the security of the whole region, and what is crucial now is the speed with which we will implement this project and turn it into a joint success story. You can be sure that this Government will always be ready to cooperate," said Prime Minister Paluckas.
The plant to be built in Baisogala, Radviliškis district, is an important element in Lithuania's security and defence plans, and the timely implementation of the project is a key common task, given that Russia remains a long-term threat to Europe and the entire NATO alliance, the Head of the Government of Lithuania added.
The project, implemented together with one of the world's leading defence industry companies, is a significant boost for Lithuania's defence industry, reducing dependence on long supply chains, and at the same time increasing synergies between close allies Lithuania and Germany.
According to the Prime Minister, the project also has the potential to attract new investments to Lithuania and strengthen the partnership between Lithuania and Germany in other areas.
Also on Wednesday, a Memorandum of Understanding between Rheinmetall and Epso-G Invest and the Giraitės Armaments Plant was signed at the Government on the use of renewable energy and storage/battery systems in the company's Lithuanian operations. In June last year, Rheinmetall's plant in Radviliškis was granted the status of an urgent project for the security and defence needs of the State.
