92 members of parliament voted for the law, with nobody voting against and two abstentions.
The agreement was signed by the Lithuanian and Swedish foreign ministers on 10 April 2014 in Stockholm. It established a 15 kilometre sea border between Lithuania and Sweden.
The ratification of the document provides for a legal basis to ensure economic, environmental and defence interests, as well as sovereign rights in the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf. It also allows to implement the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
