33 parliamentarians out of 141 supported the proposal of the President, while 13 voted against and 49 abstained. The Seimas has sent the Office of the President the document back so that necessary corrections could be made.
The President proposed that about 90 percent of television programs transmitted in Lithuania would be broadcasted in official EU languages.
It is estimated that programs transmitted in Lithuania consist of 30 percent of Russian channels.
In addition, the head of the state proposed to establish fines or penalties of television programs suspension for the promotion of war or for incitement to breach the sovereignty and independence of Lithuania.
Member of the Seimas Bronius Bradauskas noted in an interview that the content of the draft reminds him of the Stalin era.
