The Lithuanian leader said that it is important to boost the turnout in the European Parliament elections on 9 June so that EU citizens express their will on the future of Europe. According to Gitanas Nausėda, the new EU political cycle should bring the European Union even more certainty, unity, and the ability to represent its interests effectively on a global stage.
During the conversation, President Gitanas Nausėda stressed the need to agree on the beginning of accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova during the European Council meeting at the end of June. According to the Head of State, this is the right moment to ensure a timely and smooth Euro-integration process for Ukraine and Moldova, and it is therefore necessary to find a consensus on this issue.
The Lithuanian leader stressed that in the new EU political cycle, it is essential to further strengthen the EU defense industry and increase the resilience and competitiveness of the EU economy.
