Lithuanian and German Heads of Government speak at the forum discussion "Germany and Lithuania: the European economies in times of geopolitical tensions".
"The European Union, where we have just celebrated the successes of our 20 years of membership and where we continue to do so, can be even better: we need a more efficient, genuine capital markets union, a Green Deal to strengthen our energy independence, a stronger relationship with our like-minded partners in the world, and a more comprehensive Community resilience so that we can better protect our citizens. The EU is a peace project, but peace is only achieved through strength. Today, it is also particularly needed to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression and to win," said Prime Minister Šimonytė.
After the discussion, Šimonytė and Scholz talked about support for Ukraine, security in the region and bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Germany.
As the Prime Minister noted, Ukraine desperately needs support to help it not only to resist but also to defeat the aggressor.
The European Union issues, preparations for the deployment of the German brigade in Lithuania, and other bilateral issues were also discussed in the meeting.
