Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament: the EAPL candidate has a real chance to be the mayor of Vilnius

The leader of the Labour Party and Speaker of Lithuanian Parliament Loreta Graužinienė believes that the candidate of Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (EAPL) has a real chance of winning the mandate of the mayor of Vilnius. She stated that in an interview for the Žinių Radijas radio.

'(...) There is a possibility that the EAPL candidate has a chance to be elected as the mayor of Vilnius. (...) Parties should responsibly approach to the assessment of their candidates. So do we. I believe that EAPL is doing exactly the same,' said the head of the Lithuanian Parliament Loreta Graužinienė.

Citizens of Lithuania will elect the mayors of 60 local governments in Lithuania by direct elections for the first time. So far, the mayors were elected by the local government councils among the members of the local government councils.

Elections of mayors and local councils will be held on 1st March 1 2015.

Currently the member of EAPL - Jaroslav Kaminski - is the vice-mayor of Vilnius. To add, one of the EAPL representatives - Artur Ludkovski - was the vice-mayor of Vilnius in 2007-2009.
