Press Office of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania issued a statement today titled 'Fear among opponents of EAPL', in which it expresses its surprise of the fact that the media has already predicted the EAPL candidate in complementary Seimas elections, while the party has not even talked about this question.
'Lithuanian media speculate about the EAPL candidate in complementary parliamentary elections in single-seat Žirmūnai district in Vilnius, scheduled for 1st March 2015. According to the media, Renata Cytacka, who stood as the candidate in this district in 2012, will be again the EAPL candidate. Meanwhile, the EAPL authorities has not yet discussed such question. So where does such news come from?' asks the EAPL Press Office and presents the reasons why party's opponents may start worrying.
'The anxiety and nervousness of EAPL opponents can be understood to some extent. Renata Cytacka achieved very good results (2220 votes) in 2012. Moreover, recently she presented herself as a competent and honest Vice-Minister of Energy, who courageously confronted the brazen campaign of the media and politicians trying to malign and discredit her. Thus, in the eyes of an average citizen, resistant to manipulation and medial propaganda, Cytacka became a symbol of a fair and trustworthy politician, resistant to pressure,' the statement says.
'The fear of opponents of the increasing EAPL power is growing more and more as they still have in mind recent presidential elections. The EAPL candidate, leader of the party Valdemar Tomaševski obtained excellent results in Vilnius: 17.5%. It was only the President Grybauskaitė who was better,' recalls the Press Office of the party.
EAPL forecasts that with the approach of the date of elections the atmosphere will be getting thicker.
'All these circumstances apparently caused panic in the ranks of some medial and political circles, which are reluctant to Poles and our success in Vilnius and the Vilnius Region. They fear that EAPL will continue to strengthen its position in local government, and maybe also - possibly after the success of Renata Cytacka - in the Lithuanian Parliament. They find it difficult to accept such a scenario, therefore media provocations, manipulations and lies, hitting the Polish community, can be expected. The closer the elections, the hotter the atmosphere,' the party predicts.
"Whoever will be nominated by the EAPL authorities for the next years' local government elections and supplementary parliamentary elections, we can be sure that these people will be trustworthy, competent and reliable in public activities, they will consistently and responsibly represent our interests, the Press Office of EAPL states.
