94 deputies voted for holding the elections on 1st March, one was against. This decision will come into force on 1st October 2014.
The Lithuanian Central Electoral Commission proposed that elections would be held on 22nd February 2015, but the deputies of the Seimas offered to organize them one week later - on 1st March.
The citizens of Lithuania will elect mayors of local government through direct elections for the first time next year. Until now the mayors have been elected by the council among the members of the local government council.
