"Lithuania and Poland share Russia as their neighbour and know well the imperial attempts to impose its will by force. We understand what it means to defend ourselves against aggression, and we have done it together in the common history of our nations. I am pleased that we are particularly united in the face of threats, that we understand the need both to strengthen our defence and to help Ukraine - as actively and as quickly as possible, so that we don't have to be the ones defending", - said Prime Minister Šimonytė.
The meeting highlighted the overlapping threat perceptions and the interlinked security of Lithuania and Poland, which encourages and obliges the countries to cooperate closely in various areas and to underline the importance of support for Ukraine in the international community.
In addition, it is important to remain vigilant regarding hybrid threats, such as the currently diminished illegal migration organised by the Belarusian regime at the borders of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia, the Prime Minister emphasised.
The issues of education and preservation of national identity for the Polish and Lithuanian national minorities in Lithuania and Poland were also discussed. As noted during the meeting, national communities unite and strengthen both countries through their diversity, while also recalling their shared history.
