During the meeting, the President welcomed the growing bilateral relations between Lithuania and Australia, and stressed that we have great potential to further expand trade cooperation, as well as ties in life sciences, financial technology, and defense industries.
“Lithuania and Australia are geographically distant countries, but our people are united by strong bonds, active cooperation in business, education and science,” the President pointed out at the meeting.
The Head of State said he was delighted to have had the opportunity today to address the first Lithuania-Victoria Forum in Melbourne, which discussed the prospects of economic and academic cooperation between Lithuania and Australia.
In his meeting with Governor Margaret Gardner, the President also underlined that Lithuania is seeking a closer dialogue on security and defense issues. As Lithuania puts great emphasis on cyber security, Gitanas Nausėda invited Australia to join the Cyber Security Center in Kaunas. According to the President, the ties established between the Mykolas Romeris University and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) are a good step towards cooperation at the national level.
