In his address to European leaders, the President stressed that support for Ukraine should remain at the top of EU priority list, as Ukraine’s victory is the path to peace and stability in Europe. Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that it was time to find legal solutions for the use of frozen Russian funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as to further tighten sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
According to President Gitanas Nausėda, providing uninterrupted military support for Ukraine is vital, but to do so, it is necessary to strengthen Europe’s defense capabilities, improve military mobility, and boost the military industry.
“Our prompt and effective military support for Ukraine is the straightest path to victory and peace. In co-ordination with our transatlantic partners, we have to give Ukrainians everything they need to fight against the aggressor. To help Ukraine, we need to be strong ourselves and our defense industry must be fully operational,” the President pointed out.
The Lithuanian leader also stressed the importance of EU enlargement.
“EU enlargement is an opportunity to unite the continent. It should not become hostage to institutional issues. Given the geopolitical importance of the EU enlargement process, we need to take decisions on EU enlargement first, and only then talk about institutional reforms. Ukraine, Moldova, and other countries have to make progress in implementing the reforms and the European Commission’s recommendations. We need to properly evaluate this progress and take decisions on the opening of negotiations later this year,” the Head of State spoke.
