“Canada’s decision to open an embassy in Lithuania this year begins a new stage of the bilateral Lithuanian-Canadian relations. We look forward to a new level of our military cooperation as well. Canada is a critical part of the transatlantic bond and a steadfast transatlantic bond is the foundation of collective NATO defence,” says Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas.
Canada is a valued Baltic states’ defence partner that leads a NATO enhance Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Latvia. The Royal Canadian Air Force contributed a NATO Baltic Air Policing rotation to the mission conducted from Šiauliai in 2014 and at another point, an officer to the NATO Force Integration Unit.
The incoming Defence Attaché to Lithuania served across the Canadian Armed Forces from 1986, his most recent previous assignment was as Military Attaché to Ukraine.
