“Rendering assistance to Ukraine is and remains one of the priority areas. The reimbursement for assistance to Ukraine under the European Peace Facility (EPF) is planned to be used for defence needs to keep the pace of national capability development and further use the finance in assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” says Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas.
The worth of assistance the Ministry of National Defence has provided thus far to the Armed Forces of Ukraine will soon reach EUR 0.5 billion spent on weaponry, equipment, military personnel training, treatment and rehabilitation.
The Assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine Plan the State Defence Council has approved for 2024-2026 will be worth approx. EUR 200 million. Major areas of assistance covered by the Plan are acquisition of lethal and no-lethal aid, military training and courses, financial contributions to assistance funds, repair of military equipment in Lithuania and personnel training.
The State Defence Council also approved a State Armed Defence Concept update prompted by the security situation in the region, updated NATO regional defence plans and the necessity to transition the Armed Forces to a new level of quality. The updated Concept focuses on and prioritizes the existing military threats and national security interests.
In addition, capability development solutions required in establishing a division were discussed.
