The President was briefed on the Headquarters’ activities, responsibilities and tasks. He met with its officers and staff, including Lithuanian soldiers serving there.
“I am pleased with the decisions made at the recent NATO Summit in Vilnius and the opportunity to be here today at the NATO Multinational Corps Northeast Headquarters. The Summit has once again demonstrated the solidarity and unity of the Alliance. The decisions taken have laid a solid foundation for NATO’s further reinforcement,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda highlighted the role played by NATO’s Northeast Headquarters, which is strategically important for defense planning in the region, as well as for command and control on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
“Lithuania fully supports national military commitments to ensure effective regional defense. We expect the NATO Multinational Corps Northeast Headquarters to develop new regional tactical defense plans as soon as possible. I am confident that the combat readiness of the Headquarters and of the troops delegated to it will be maintained,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda also underlined that expanding military cooperation between Lithuania and Poland and the defense of NATO’s eastern flank are a strategic national security interest. Joint action to strengthen the defenses of both countries and the region is an important factor in the face of military aggression by Russia and its accomplice Belarus against Ukraine.
