Gitanas Nausėda highlighted Lithuania’s strong support to Moldova’s Euro-integration and stressed that Lithuania remembered very well the EU integration process and could therefore provide targeted support on this issue. According to the President, the EU candidate status represents a new strategic stage in the EU-Moldova relations. “We strongly support the early start of the EU accession negotiations once Moldova fully implements the Commission’s recommendations. We also commend Moldovan Government’s strong commitment to reforms, in particular the comprehensive reform of the justice system, the fight against corruption and the depoliticization of state institutions,” Gitanas Nausėda spoke during the meeting. According to the President, Lithuania has offered 300 Lithuanian experts in the field of Euro-integration ready to provide advisory assistance to Moldova.
The Lithuanian leader welcomed the high-level bilateral cooperation and underlined that Lithuania continued to intensify its targeted support in the areas of Euro-integration, cyber security, economic diplomacy, resilience to hybrid threats and other issues.
President Gitanas Nausėda commended Moldova’s contribution to the provision of humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian war refugees, and stressed that Lithuania had undertaken to transfer and accommodate up to 2,000 Ukrainian war refugees from reception centers in Moldova.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania supports Moldova’s efforts to counter the hybrid effects of Russia’s aggression, as well as energy market reforms to increase energy independence and to ensure energy security. “We stand in full solidarity with Moldova and are committed to strengthening your resilience,” the Head of State underlined.
The meeting also discussed cooperation between the countries in multilateral formats, this year’s NATO summit in Vilnius, as well as the European Political Community Summit to be held in Moldova.
