President Gitanas Nausėda said that assistance to Ukraine and mobilizing allies for this purpose remained the primary objective, pointing out the need to continue efforts to provide Ukraine with the necessary heavy weaponry to bring the war to an end and Ukraine to victory.
“We must work together to mobilize our allies to further support Ukraine’s fight against the aggressor. Every day of war costs human lives, so the sooner we provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs, the sooner this war will be brought to an end and the aggressor defeated,” spoke the President.
President Gitanas Nausėda stressed that both Lithuania and Poland supported the implementation of the 10-point peace plan proposed by President Zelenskyy. The Lithuanian President also underlined the need to take all necessary decisions on the launch of Ukraine’s EU membership negotiations as soon as possible. Gitanas Nausėda and Andrzej Duda agreed to continue to work together to push for even tougher sanctions against Russia and for the establishment of a special tribunal to investigate the crimes of Russia’s aggression.
The Presidents of Lithuania and Poland also discussed preparations for the NATO Summit to be held in Vilnius in July. Gitanas Nausėda stressed the importance of further strengthening NATO’s Eastern flank by implementing the Madrid Summit decisions, among other priorities such as reaching agreement on NATO’s updated regional defense plans and Ukraine’s further Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as renewing the agreement among the allied countries to increase their defense investments.
