The President thanked the commanders for their contribution to the security of Lithuania and NATO’s eastern flank. “You are an integral part of this security. Allied troops in Lithuania are a collective defense commitment to the strengthening of the Baltic region and NATO’s eastern flank as a whole,” Gitanas Nausėda stressed at the meeting.
According to the President, this country’s goal is to have armed forces that are ready for defense and that can work closely and effectively together with allied military units. For this purpose, Lithuania is continuously making the necessary investments, preparing and improving the relevant support elements of the host country.
“It is clear that the security situation in the region remains tense and unpredictable. Russia still maintains its military capabilities. Therefore, strengthening the security and defense of the region, together with regional defense plans and assigned forces, is one of our main priorities. We hope that concrete decisions will be taken at the NATO Summit in Vilnius next July,” the President spoke.
The meeting was attended by the commanders of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, the NATO Force Integration Unit, the US Battalion and Artillery Unit, the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence, the Forward Command Element of the German Brigade, and the Baltic Air Policing contingents.
