“Lithuania is ready to contribute to this goal by promoting connectivity, including through people-to-people contacts,” Landsbergis said.
On 5-7 December, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis is paying an official visit to Astana, Kazakhstan. On Tuesday, Landsbergis met with Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi, the Deputy Chair of the Senate of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov, and the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Aigul Kuspan.
Landsbergis welcomed Kazakhstan for its firm stance in support of the fundamental principles of international law – territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and peaceful cooperation.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude for the Kazakh Government’s support for preserving Lithuanian historical heritage sites in Kazakhstan.
In May 2022, a monument to Lithuanian political prisoners was unveiled at the Spassk International Memorial Complex.
Landsbergis also supported Kazakhstan’s efforts to diversify the country’s energy and trade relations. “The EU is a crucial partner in Kazakhstan‘s diversification strategy. But even more importantly - Kazakhstan is also a key to Europe‘s diversification - in energy, in the supply of resources, in trade and logistics,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister said.
Landsbergis was delighted with mutual trust, welcomed Kazakhstan’s reform agenda, and saw much potential for closer cooperation between the two countries.
“We welcome your determination to build a new Kazakhstan. We would also like to reassure you that Lithuania stands ready to share its experience and expertise, to support reforms aimed at bolstering democracy and respect for human rights, and
fundamental freedoms,” Lithuania’s Foreign Minister said.
As regards the future expansion of long-standing business relations, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis called for continuing to develop transport and logistical links, increasing mutual investments, exploiting the tourism potential, and encouraging student exchange.
