During the meeting, Gitanas Nausėda highlighted the close historical ties between Lithuania and the Czech Republic, pointing out that this year marked the centenary of bilateral relations, and thanked the Czech leader for the participation of the Czech troops in NATO enhanced forward presence and air policing mission.
According to the President, it is necessary to continue to increase pressure on Russia, which is continuing its military aggression and destroying Ukraine’s key infrastructure in order to negotiate favorable terms for itself in peace talks. The dangers this entails were exposed by the incident on Tuesday this week in which NATO member Poland was affected.
“We need to extend the sanctions against Russia and fully support Ukraine as it fights for its people and its territory,” Gitanas Nausėda underlined.
The President also stressed the need to strengthen the fight against Russian disinformation and propaganda, as well as Russia’s attempts to rewrite history and deny the crimes of the totalitarian Soviet regime.
Speaking on the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius, the President stressed the need to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defense capabilities, as well as to consider Ukraine’s aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration and to expand political and practical cooperation.
