'We very much appreciate that, in this period requiring great concentration and a principled, courageous posture from the European countries, the Czech Republic has been one of the countries with whom we agree on key issues, often share common priorities and can speak with one voice. We are also grateful to the Czech Republic for its continued contribution to the security of the Baltic region and of the NATO Alliance as a whole for that matter’, said the First Deputy Chancellor of the Government, also noting the Czech participation in the NATO Forward Presence Battalion and the Baltic Air Policing Mission.
As staunch supporters of Ukraine, Lithuania and the Czech Republic are ready to continue their contribution to Ukraine’s defence and humanitarian needs, said the parties.
EU sanctions against Russia need to be expanded, and it is important to ensure that the sanctions already in place are implemented without hiccups, said Kriščiūnas, pointing out the importance of imposing mirror sanctions on Belarus, which is supporting the war and committing serious human rights violations in its country.
The parties have underlined the need not to succumb to the fatigue and Russia’s energy and nuclear blackmail, but to preserve the EU’s unity and continue the support for Ukraine.
Deputy Minister Kurfürst has thanked Lithuania for the support and cooperation during the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, which will end this year.
