‘Lithuania is honoured to call Sweden a close ally and a strategic partner, with whom we enjoy ever-closer bilateral ties, strong and dynamic partnership in the European and Nordic-Baltic formats and share the same approach to the importance of a stronger cooperation regarding the regional and European security’, reads the Prime Minister’s letter.
According to Prime Minister, the historic decision by Sweden to apply for the NATO membership will open new opportunities for a stronger cooperation in the fields of security and defence.
‘As Ukraine heroically continues fighting for its own freedom and the global security order, our unity and joint support efforts are crucial in withstanding and stopping this unjustified Russian aggression as well as in not letting the global community get used to the flames of war on the European soil. I strongly believe that by keeping our solidarity and strong position based on the values of freedom and democracy, we will overcome the horrors of the war we face today’, said Prime Minister.
In her letter of greetings, the Head of Government added that Lithuania stands ready to work closely with Sweden during the Sweden’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union starting from January 2023.
