The parties have signed a Joint Declaration of the Governments and two other documents : the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Poland on enhancing connectivity between the Baltic and the Black seas through the development of the Baltic – Black/Aegean Seas and North Sea – Baltic European Transport Corridors, and the Joint Declaration of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Poland and the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania.
‘This is already the third joint meeting of our Cabinets, I am glad that this becomes a good tradition to consolidate our close strategic partnership’, said Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.
It has been agreed at the meeting that it is necessary not only to continue but also to strengthen and accelerate the support to Ukraine, helping it to continue its successful fight against the Russian aggression and take back control of the occupied territories. The need has been pointed out to find an effective legal way to use the frozen assets and funds of Russia and its oligarchs for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
‘Our countries also feel the impact of the Russian aggression, including through prices of energy resources. However, we cannot compare the inconveniences we face with the trials of the Ukrainian nation, we must continue to consistently support Ukraine, increase pressure on Russia, seek its legal accountability for the crimes committed in Ukraine, we must work together to consolidate international support for these steps’, emphasized I. Šimonytė.
The parties have underlined the importance of the joint statement of the Prime Ministers of the Baltic States and Poland of 8 September regarding the regional approach to limiting access for Russian citizens to the Schengen area.
Other items on the agenda have included regional security and cooperation in the field of defence, the security of the states’ external borders - Lithuania and Poland have repelled a hybrid attack through instrumentalised migration, but both countries have agreed that attention to this area remains extremely important, as does the cooperation between Polish and Lithuanian authorities.
At the end of the meeting, the Heads of Governments and their delegations have posed for a family photo with the flags of Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine, thus expressing solidarity with the Ukrainian people defending their own freedom and that of Europe.
