‘I probably do not need to introduce Laima Liucija to anyone. She has been in the politics of the independent Lithuania for longer than there has been an independent Lithuanian politics. We all know her very well. She has extensive experience of working in the European Parliament, which is in fact the main partner of the European Court of Auditors,’ said Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė when introducing the nomination of Ms Andrikienė last week.
‘During my career in the European Parliament, I served on the Committee on Budgets for five years. This Committee submits most of the enquiries or requests to the European Court of Auditors on the implementation of the European Union’s budget; on the implementation of individual policies; on whether the objectives have been achieved; on whether the added value has been created; on how the funds allocated for policy implementation have been used; and on many other matters. I was also a member of the Committee on Budgetary Control for a short time. This is the main Committee where hearings take place before the European Parliament votes on a Member of the European Court of Auditors,’ Ms Andrikienė said.
The Resolution on approving the nomination of Laima Liucija Andrikienė as a Member of the European Court of Auditors (draft No. XIVP-1887(2)) was adopted by 111 votes in favour, with one against and one abstention.
