On Tuesday, Parliament approved landmark rules for big online platforms - the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act. The new regulations aim to make the EU online environment safer, fairer and more transparent by protecting users from illegal content and products, curbing unfair practises of large platforms and banning certain types of targeted advertising.
On Tuesday, MEPs questioned Commission and Council representatives on how EU funds could be used to help people cope with the rising cost of living. The following day they discussed the possibility of taxing the windfall profits currently being made by energy companies.
An increase in mental health problems means that this could be the next health crisis. Parliament called for action in a resolution on mental health in the digital world of work, adopted on Tuesday. It calls on EU institutions and countries to find ways to help prevent mental health problems. MEPs also propose that 2023 is the EU Year of Good Mental Health.

On Wednesday, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala presented the programme and main goals of his country’s Council presidency. The Czech Republic took over the reins of the presidency from France on 1 July.
MEPs welcomed the decision to open the EU’s doors to Ukraine and Moldova, but asked leaders to strengthen the EU and tackle the latest crisis during a debate on Wednesday.
Parliament reiterated its call for safe access to abortion and condemned backsliding in women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights in the US in a debate on Monday and in a resolution adopted on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, MEPs adopted Parliament’s position on new rules aimed at increasing the use of sustainable fuels in aviation. Members want to accelerate the shift to green fuels.
