Ukraine Solidarity Days
Parliament’s committees will show support for Ukraine's Parliament - the Verkhovna Rada - this week through the Ukraine Solidarity Days There will be debates with Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Ukraine ambassador to the EU Vsevolod Chentsov and 2017 Sakharov Prize laureate Lorent Saleh.
Energy independence
On Thursday, MEPs will discuss the RePowerEU strategy for energy independence with the Council and the European Commission. The strategy aims to make Europe independent of Russian fossil fuels well before 2030, starting with gas. It includes measures to mitigate the surge in energy prices and replenish gas stocks for next winter.
Ensuring food security
In light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Parliament will consider the need for an urgent EU action plan to ensure food security inside and outside the EU during Wednesday’s plenary session in Brussels.
Roaming charges
On Thursday, MEPs will vote on extending the Roam like at Home scheme for another 10 years. This will allow consumers to continue using their phones when travelling in the EU at no additional cost.
EU summit
Ahead of the spring summit on 24-25 March, which will focus on the war in Ukraine as well as Covid and the economic recovery, MEPs will set out their priorities. US President Joe Biden will join EU leaders at the meeting.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will address the Parliament at 17.30 CET on Wednesday.
Conference on the Future of Europe
The fifth plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe will take place on Friday and Saturday in Strasbourg to work on its final proposals.
