The President briefed the EU ambassadors on Lithuania’s economic situation and post-pandemic economic recovery measures, as well as on the readout of yesterday’s call with the leaders of the US and the B9 countries.
On migration, the President emphasized that despite the de-escalation of the crisis on the border with Belarus, the situation remained tense. Speaking to the EU ambassadors, Gitanas Nausėda stressed the importance of updating EU legislation on migration and asylum policy and ensuring adequate border protection and its funding.
The President and the EU ambassadors also discussed the tense security situation in Ukraine and Russia’s military build-up on the border with Ukraine.
“We must express our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and make it clear that attempts to challenge Ukraine’s territorial integrity will not be tolerated,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda also stressed the need to pursue an ambitious outcome of the Eastern Partnership Summit. According to the President, we need to move forward with the gradual integration of the associated countries – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia – into the EU internal market, providing them with a European perspective.
