‘We discussed a coordinated response, international support, and further sanctions on the regime in Belarus. This situation is directed against the EU to achieve, through manipulation of people’s lives and dignity, utterly cynical goals of lifting the sanctions imposed for the violations of the human rights of the people in Belarus’, said the Prime Minister of Lithuania.
Earlier today, Ingrida Šimonytė has spoken on the phone with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, underlying the necessity on the part of the European Union to call on the cooperation of Belarus with the UN and international organisations allowing the governments of the countries of origin of irregular migrants to bring back their citizens.
The Prime Minister of Lithuania has noted, however, that the situation on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border is currently under full control. Today, the Prime Minister has convened competent services to discuss the situation and further steps in the event of an escalation.
