According to the President, it is essential to ensure transparency in the use of national and EU funds when implementing reforms in education, innovation, healthcare, social security, and other areas of importance for Lithuania.
The President underlined that Lithuania was ready to become a regional leader in green transformation and an EU ambassador for green change in other countries, especially in the Eastern Partnership countries. “In financial technologies and cybersecurity, Lithuania has already made significant progress in the region. We can replicate our efforts on a wider and more rapid scale as we pursue green growth objectives. Therefore, we are particularly interested in the findings of the European Court of Auditors regarding this area and EU investments in general, so that we can invest both national and EU funds in a transparent and efficient manner,” the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that Lithuania had ambitious goals for delivering the Green Deal and was working to engage society, public institutions, business, and non-governmental entities in the process.
It is estimated that full and effective reforms and streamlined investment would accelerate GDP growth by an average of 1.7 percent between 2022 and 2026.
Speaking about the European Court of Auditors’ reports on EU cooperation with third countries in readmission and return of migrants, as well as Frontex work in EU border protection, the President said that the Belarusian hybrid attack clearly demonstrated the urgent need for changes to the EU’s legal framework for border protection, migration and asylum policies.
