The president also called on the minister to be more active in cherishing national cultural heritage and to ensure transparent distribution of direct EU support on culture received by Lithuania for the first time.
According to Grybauskaite, in order to take care of the information space of the country it is necessary to improve legislative framework and to establish better conditions for Lithuania to protect itself from information attacks.
Another priority of the cultural policy underlined by the president was fostering of the national cultural identity.
"It is necessary to spread culture in various ways, to create favourable environment and in this way to increase the self-confidence of Lithuanian people and to encourage them to be really be proud of Lithuania's cultural heritage and contemporary works of art. The president also asked to pay more attention to the real implementation of the National Literature Programme, as Lithuanian texts and texts translated into Lithuanian and their promotion is the necessary condition to ensure the vitality of the Lithuanian language," said Ruta Kackute, Presidential Advisor on Culture and Education, after the meeting.
Grybauskaite also underlined transparent distribution of the European funds to culture. The new EU financial perspective has provided for LTL 650 million (EUR 188 million) for Lithuanian culture.
