“The greatest current demand is for a EU-wide development of cyber security capabilities which could be used in case of a large-scale cyber incident or crisis,” stressed M. Abukevičius when discussing the level of maturity achieved with the Lithuanian-coordinated Cyber Rapid Response Teams (CRRTs) and Mutual Assistance in Cyber Security PESCO project and the wish to share experience with other EU member states and EU institutions.
M. Abukevičius and J. Lepassaar also exchanged views on the recent EU initiatives, such as the revised Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS2) and establishment of a EU Joint Cyber Unit.
Vice Minister also presented Lithuania’s priorities in the area of cyber security and pointed out the ongoing consolidation in the area, plans concerning elimination of technology from unreliable manufacturers, and efforts to increase resilience in critical infrastructure.
It was agreed in the first meeting between M. Abukevičius and ENISA Executive Director J. Lepassaar to expand the cooperation between Lithuania and ENISA, also to encompass qualification improvement opportunities for Lithuanian cyber security experts.
The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) is based in Greece is the European cyber security centre of excellence. It assists EU and EU member states with preparedness to prevent information security incidents, to identify and respond to them. ENISA provides practical advice and solutions to the public and private sectors of EU member states, contributes to policy and legislation concerning EU networks and information security, and publishes research in the area of cyber security.
