In their letter, leaders underline that the EU must demonstrate global leadership in digital transition through innovation, new technologies and public-private partnerships. At the same time, the EU needs to strengthen international cooperation by maintaining and expanding its technological and risk management capabilities.
The letter states that in order to gain a competitive advantage in the world, the EU must translate research and innovation into commercial success and place special focus on upskilling and re-skilling.
According to European leaders, it is necessary to make sure that the EU becomes a leader of responsible digital transformation. Europe’s competitiveness should be built on efficient, trustworthy, transparent, safe and responsible use of data in accordance with shared values.
The letter underlines that the single market remains key to economic recovery, prosperity and to productivity and competitiveness. A digital single market is necessary for innovation, to eliminate barriers to cross-border online services, and to ensure free data flows.
