‘The Baltic co-operation becomes ever more important in the face of the pandemic. There are many questions about whether the vaccination will go as planned. It is also important to jointly combat false information about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine’, said the Head of Government.
The first joint Baltic event, scheduled for the beginning of March, is the Baltic Council of Ministers (BCM) Apart from our usual priorities - energy and transport, we have new ones - the green agenda, digitisation.
Another important question is how we can help the people of Belarus. We look forward to joint initiatives with the Baltic and Nordic countries.
The Head of Government has raised the issue of the Astravyets NPP. This power plant is a geopolitical weapon of Russia directed against the unity of the Baltic States. Therefore, compliance with the nuclear safety recommendations is the responsibility not only of the Baltic States but also of the entire European Union. Preventing the entry of Belarusian electricity into the Baltic market means preventing financing the ambitions of the Minsk regime at the expense of the citizens of these countries. Lithuania has brought forward an idea of Latvia and Estonia working out a joint methodology for electricity trade with third countries.
The Prime Ministers have also talked about infrastructure projects. A priority that is also very important for national security is the completion of the Rail Baltic project by 2026.
