The Prime Minister has emphasized that the new Government of the Republic of Lithuania will pay special attention to the field of security and defence, and all the commitments made to the Alliance and other countries will continue to be honoured.
‘NATO plays a highly important role in ensuring the security of Lithuania and the entire Europe, therefore Lithuania will continue to make a purposeful contribution to strengthening the transatlantic relationship, as well as seek closer cooperation between NATO and the European Union,’ said the Prime Minister.
In the conversation, the Prime Minister has discussed the current and forthcoming topical matters on NATO’s agenda, preparation for next year’s NATO Summit in Brussels, and possibilities for holding a future NATO Summit in Lithuania.
‘This would be an important signal of attention to the security and defence of the region, and would contribute to actions strengthening the security of the entire region,’ said Šimonytė.
The Prime Minister has invited the Secretary General of NATO to pay a visit to Lithuania as soon as circumstances permit.
