On Sunday, Karbauskis arrived at the Central Electoral Commission's (VRK) sitting and read his resignation statement. The politician said that "it was his firm personal decision". Karbauskis intends to stay in Lithuania due to numerous public and work related tasks. He has no doubt that Rope will represent the voters well.
The VRK approved the resignation and deemed Rope as elected to the European Parliament.
Based on the final data, the Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union received 6.61% of votes in the EP election and won 1 seat.

The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats will be represented by Gabrielius Landsbergis and Algirdas Saudargas, the Social Democratic Party by Vilija Blinkeviciute and Zigmantas Balcytis, the Liberals' Movement by Antanas Guoga and Petras Austrevicius, the Order and Justice Party by Rolandas Paksas and Valentinas Mazuronis, the Labour Party by Viktor Uspaskikh, the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania (LLRA) and the Russian Alliance by Valdemar Tomasevski, while the Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union by Bronis Rope.
Members of the VRK unanimously voted for the approval of results.
Chair of the VRK dissolved any doubts about the results regarding conservatives. Due to a close race results were recalculated and it was determined that conservative Laima Andrikiene was third while Algirdas Saudargas was second by mere 133 votes separating the two.
The newly elected MEPs will be granted certificates on 5 June at 2 p.m. in Parliament.
The new EP will hold first sittings on 1-3 July to elect the President and 14 deputies.
On 14-17 the president of the European Commission should be named.
