‘Let me emphasize that the future EU funding will play a crucial role in creating a future-oriented Lithuania’s economy. Already now, we must clearly plan our homework on how to use the EU programme funding to finance reforms and strategic economic directions in Lithuania,’ noted the Prime Minister.
In the negotiations on the EU budget, the Government underlines the need to seek adequate funding for Cohesion Policy, agriculture, infrastructure projects of European significance (synchronization of electricity networks with the grid of Continental Europe, Rail Baltica), and fulfilment of EU’s contractual obligations (closure of Ignalina NPP, Kaliningrad transit scheme). The aim of achieving convergence of direct agricultural payments at EU level is emphasized.
According to the Prime Minister, it is necessary to create conditions for the resources of European economic recovery to be used to finance the priority directions set out in the Government-initiated DNA Plan for the Future Economy.
The European Commission presented its proposals for the European Economic Recovery Plan and the EU budget for 2021-2027 on 27 May.
